Manipur Crisis
Manipur Crisis
What Happened in Manipur?
There are Houses and Religious Places being burned and
destroyed, people being killed, people breaking out into camps of army to steal
weapons to kill other group of people an Civil war this bad something that has
Shocked India and in fact whole world, I’m saying whole world because whole
world seeing what is happening here Even EU raised the Question against India
but we have given it a line that is, “It’s an Internal matter” but it leaves us
with questions like, how did this happen? Was it necessary? Will it stop? Can
this happen again? If it happens again how we can stop it?
Why it happened and what were the root causes of it?
Conflict of Land
Manipur is a land full of hill area and a valley
approximately 85% is hill and only 15% is Valley yet the 15% of valley is home
for 52% of people who are dominant group i.e., Meitei, there and rest is for
tribes know as Kuki and Naga. Now these Meitei people are restricted to own or
settle in land in hill areas but Kuki and Naga are allowed to settle and own
land in Valley. Also the Government has announced the implementation of Article
for Encroachment, that is, taking a piece of land by force or illegal means.
Now Kuki and Naga says, that they have been living there since always it’s
there place and they haven’t encroached here. Government is partly doing this
because there is news that plants like Opium is grown in that place and that’s
one of the reason why some group of people from valley wants to settle or own land there.
So in short due to this difference in two groups that Meitei
can’t own land in Hill but Kuki and Naga can in Valley is reason why this
rivalry is going on between these two groups
Political Difference and Caste Myth
Meitei is the Dominant Group in Manipur and Kuki and Naga
are minority. So, in Government Meitei has majority for its member and Kuki and
Naga are few only about 20. Meitei Group is insisting that they want their
Group to be Under ST category, that is, they should be regarded as tribal
people too but if this happens, then they will have advantage to own land and
settle in Hill areas too. Which Kuki and Naga people are refusing because they
know that Meitei already have advantage in Government and if they became ST
then they will have advantage for their homeland too. Hence the rivalry is
growing stronger.
Myth of Christian Missionaries
(Please Before thinking anything ill about any group know
before Christians or Hindus or Tribal or Non-tribal we are Humans)
Meitei is a Group mostly of Hindus and Kuki and Naga are
Mostly Christians. But, how did this happened tribal people Christians? This
happened because of Deceive Game that British played in past, they took over this land and tagged
it as Princely State, that means they will not interfere in internal things but
over the other side they owned the place so they offered a hand of help in
Education, Hospital and many things and converted them to Christians and from
there we can understand that why Kuki and Naga are mostly Christians. And
Because of this Many Churches are being destroyed and burned, which is the
reason for their Conflict.
What were the Consequences of this?
On Society and Local people of India
This Civil War or in fact any War, not only in India anywhere
leaves a mark on all humans, the deaths, the destruction and the Inhuman nature
that an Human can show terrifies everyone as a result the Cities are in
complete chaos. Was it their mistake ,was it the mistake of governors, was it the
mistake of tribes or the mistake of other group. If a conflict like this takes
place no one wins but losses are inevitable on both the sides .
On Youth
There was an Incident related to this in Delhi few youths of
Meitei, grouped and assaulted men and threaten women to rape who were coming out
of prayer meeting, they were stopped by police on rounds after everything came
to pass the men who were assaulted and women who were threaten were from Kuki
and Naga and they reported that police refused to file an FIR while police said
they have everything under control and they people who threatened them are in
jail.
If this is the place were this conflict leads youth into, then for sure sure we can confirm the impact of this conflict has on humans especially on children that grow up seeing these conflicts and surely the impact goes deeper than what eyes perceive.
Was it necessary?
This Question should rise in everyone, was this destruction
of property and killing of men and women really necessary just for some piece
of land or advantage of any group wasn’t there any better way we could have
fixed it? Well, there’s always a better civilized way but there people who
cannot live without war and destruction, an real revolt should be against fight
and destruction, wasn’t this a way the father of nation taught all of us. If we
think sensibly there was other way in which this could have been fixed the way
of peace but it’s too late now, many lives have gone, much destruction have happened
this leads to next question.
Are there possibility for it to happen again?
(I might sound odd but that is my opinion)
Well in truth chaos like this can happen further too, unless
and until we don’t overwhelm people by goodness and peace at an individual
level there’s always possibility for war like this to happen. Also, because
this path of destruction is wide many fall on this path rather than taking a narrow
path of peace so, we all have to watch out because only then we can prevent
these from happening again.
